Outpatient Program Overview

Intensive Outpatient Program

Montevista Hospital’s outpatient programs offer two levels of outcome based treatment which provides an effective, continuity of care for youth, adults and seniors through our Partial Hospitalization Program and our Intensive Outpatient Program.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Montevista’s Partial Hospital Program is an intensive, voluntary day treatment program designed for individuals with acute psychiatric concerns that do not require hospitalization. Individuals attend daily therapeutic groups after which they return home for the evening. This minimizes disruption to their daily routines, maintains uninterrupted support of family and friends, and facilitates learning by encouraging immediate practice of newly acquired skills.

Patients may be referred to the Partial Hospitalization Program following an acute inpatient stay as a “step-down” or may be admitted directly from home when they may be experiencing increased psychological/emotional distress and are finding it difficult to manage their life at work, school or home. This comprehensive, short term program (1-6 weeks) provides help in a supportive setting. The Program includes a psychiatric evaluation, intensive therapeutic groups along with individual and family meetings designed to cultivate the skills necessary to live a more satisfying and productive life.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) bridges the gap between inpatient and traditional outpatient therapies. As part of our continuum of care, Montevista Hospital’s IOP program offers intensive, time-limited, outpatient psychiatric treatment to patients living in the community. The IOP meets the needs of individuals who require less than 24-hour care, but who need more comprehensive treatment than can reasonably be provided in a traditional outpatient setting.

Montevista Hospital’s Intensive Outpatient Program is offered for patients who are no longer in acute crisis but who need further support to recover from an illness. The average length of enrollment in this program is ten days.

IOP Services and Benefits:

Montevista’s IOP program offers a full range of services that address the psychological, biological, and social aspects of the client’s illness. Including:

  • Individual assessment
  • Medication consultation and evaluation as needed
  • Family psychotherapy
  • Group therapy (process group and psycho-educational group)
  • Activity therapy
  • Individualized treatment planning and scheduling
  • Post-IOP discharge planning

Family Participation:

Family participation lies at the core of both our Partial Hospitalization and our IOP outpatient treatment programs. Family involvement improves a resident’s chance of full and lasting recovery, and helps them understand that the family system is more powerful than any individual member alone.
